The Traditional French Polishing techniques we recognize today can be traced back to a period around the 1830's. However, before this, furniture was commonly finished by the use of a fascinating array of local materials from earth pigments and root dyes which were used for colouring, whilst mead, beeswax and resins were used for sealing and polishing.

In order to maintain the authenticity of Antiques or quality pieces it remains essential to select the appropriate methods and traditional materials for each finish, ensuring the preservation of the original patina and natural ageing.
